There have been reports of a few small bass on Dexter’s Wedges from Sandquay, but little success under the railway bridge in Kingswear. News also of British Sea Power. The much-loved rock-alpinists are limbering up for Krankenhaus 5 in Brighton in May ˆ and a show looms from BSP satellite groupuscule The Modern Ovens. And last week members of BSP played as backing band to wonderstruck songman Daniel Johnston, the combo finding a regular home in the churches of south east England.
Daniel was backed by BSP‚s Abi, Hamilton, Woody and Yan, first at the Union Chapel in London, then at St Bartholomew‚s in Brighton. BSP‚s Noble couldn‚t take part, due to prior engagement in the Brighton Marathon (Martin says around £750 raised for the Sussex Wildlife Trust; finished in a three hours and 35 minutes, thanks to all sponsors). The BSP guitarist did, however, see the Brighton show: „I watched from the balcony ˆ the Smallest Church in Sussex, Albert‚s Eyes and Land Beyond sounded great in particular, with the natural reverb working wonders.‰ Here are two more reports on the Daniel/BSP shows, the first from BSP regular Geordie Nora.
Surely the spirit of Dan will hover smiling at the next Krankenhaus night. After a sell-out special at Krankenhaus 4 you would be advised to grab remaining tickets now….
